Young Artists Competition

The Beaverton Chamber Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the creation of the annual Young Artists Competition. The first half of our May concert will be turned over to some of the finest young talent in Washington County. Up to three winners will be selected to perform as soloists with the BCSO. Below are the guidelines for eligibility.

Who is eligible?

Residents of Washington County, OR or students who attend school in Washington County, OR between the ages of 13 and 20 at the date of the application deadline.

What music may be performed?

The student should prepare a piece for soloist and orchestra that is between 10 and 15 minutes in length. Orchestral parts for this piece must be easily obtainable by the BCSO. The piece may be a part of a larger work (for example, a movement from a multi movement concerto), or it may be a couple of smaller works (for example 2 or 3 selected arias). Please address all questions regarding the appropriateness of your selection to Music Director Travis Hatton in a timely manner.

Application Process

All applicants must download and fill out the official application form (MS-Word doc) and submit it along with an unedited CD of the student's performance of the selected piece. All applications must be received by the application deadline.

Evaluation

A panel of professional educators and professional performing musicians will be assembled to review and evaluate the applications. Their decisions will be final. Announcements of the winners will be made in March.Winners of the competition will not be eligible to participate in future BCSO Young Artists Competitions

Winners

Winners must be prepared to work with the Music Director and be available to attend rehearsals as needed with the orchestra in preparation for the performances. The final performance this year is scheduled for May 22 and 23, 2010.
